Everything is Broken

Debut novel on submission now

It's January of 1989, and travel writer Hannah Goldmeyer will take any assignment that gets her out of New York City. Mourning a failed relationship and the loss of her beloved grandmother, she desperately needs a change of scene.

An invitation from a college friend, artist Celie Broussard, gives Hannah an escape hatch. Born and raised in West Berlin, Celie has returned to create an exhibition, Escaping History, at her childhood home.

Here Hannah finds new friends, including Felix Ryba, a handsome Polish artist with a complicated history of his own, and exciting possibilities for the future. But only if she can heal the damage in her own past.

Set during the Cold War thaw across Eastern Europe, in the months before the destruction of the Berlin Wall, EVERYTHING IS BROKEN shows how our vulnerabilities make us strong. In the tradition of journeys after loss like Rebecca Serle's ONE ITALIAN SUMMER and Jennifer E. Smith's THE UNSINKABLE GRETA JAMES, the novel explores themes of healing, renewal, and finding your true home.
